Joe Zieba Joe Zieba

Joe Zieba-President, CAPS, CGR

Founder and President of Zieba Builders, Joe studied architecture and engineering at the University of Maryland where he received his B.S. Degree with honors in engineering in 1984. Joe worked as a civil engineer, contracted by the Department of Defense, for several years on a small atoll in the South Pacific. In 1988, Joe decided to leave engineering behind and relocate to Southern California to pursue his own company as a general contractor.

 Zieba Builders was founded with a commitment to exceptional service, accountability, and craftsmanship. Joe built a network of industry experts, in both design and build, with a shared passion for perfection and precision to meet the demands of his growing general contractor business.  Many of these early partners maintain a professional relationship with Joe and the Zieba Builders team today. Joe can still be found working in the field hands-on with skilled carpentry work and an eye for design and detail.

When not working on ZBI’s projects, Joe enjoys the company of his wife and two children. They spend evenings and weekends in the great outdoors, whether it be hiking, camping, sailing or wake-boarding. Joe also loves attending the kids’ sporting events and entertaining friends and family with a delicious BBQ feast in their backyard. Occasionally, he even does a little project or two for himself.  

Karen Zieba Karen Zieba

Karen Zieba-Business and Marketing Consultant, CAPS

With over 20 years of award-winning experience in consultative sales, Karen is an integral part of the Zieba Builders' reputation and growth. Karen credits her success to professional integrity, commitment to discovery, establishing realistic expectations and putting the clients’ needs first.

Karen’s commitment to excellence in the home remodeling industry extends into her active service in the design-build community. She has served 6 years on the Board of Directors for the Remodeler’s Council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California, including 2 years as President where she earned the prestigious Industry Icon Award. She has also served several years as Trustee to the Board of Directors for the National Association of Home Builders/Remodelers, earning the Distinguished Service Award for Leadership.  

In her free time, Karen loves the outdoors and nature, especially hiking and camping in the mountains. She also enjoys attending her children’s sporting events and being an active member of the Long Beach community. When she has a few minutes of quiet, Karen can be found relaxing in her self-designed backyard retreat reading a good book. 

Calvin Medrano Calvin Medrano

Calvin Medrano - Project Manager

Calvin has been working in Construction his entire life. Born in Long Beach and raised in a family of builders, he has been part of projects
consistently since helping with roof tear-off on a hot midsummer day when he was 14 years old. While that was not the funnest experience, in
the time since, Calvin has found a deep appreciation and love for building through years of humbling work on jobsites of all kinds. His father
being a general contractor, he had the opportunity to gain crucial experience working and learning alongside various crews on countless unique
projects, soaking up knowledge along the way. Today, Calvin considers himself a jack of all trades, from demolition to finish carpentry, and
combined with a degree in International Business from Long Beach State University, he has proven a versatile and skilled addition to the team!

What Calvin loves most about his job is that he is creating something. His favorite part of the construction process itself is observing the
satisfying process of the wooden framing of a new house or addition being completed. Apart from the more technical aspects, to Calvin nothing
is more rewarding than seeing the excitement and appreciation of a homeowner or family when their project is completed. His greatest pride is
knowing he built a space for a family to call home and make life memories in! His main goal in life is to keep improving, and hopefully start
his own business one day!

Outside of work, Calvin's passions are his faith and obsession with sports. He was raised in church, attends service every week, and his family
is important to him. A lifelong athlete, Calvin grew up playing hockey and surfing, and was even part of his high school surf team. That is also
when he fell in love with cycling, which he does to this day, along with playing disc golf, basketball and hiking! When he is not actively playing,
you can find him rooting for his all-time favorite athlete LeBron James and his Lakers, the LA Kings, LA Dodgers, and Green Bay Packers!

Heather Orman Heather Orman

Heather Orman-Interior Design Assistant

For Heather, design has always been a part of her life. Certainly from age nine, when she convinced her parents to hire a professional artist to hand-paint her bedroom walls, creating a look she was going for to match her furniture and accessories, Heather knew she was going to be an interior designer. A firm believer that you either have style or you don’t, she credits her intuition as her foremost inspiration. After honing her abilities at Orange Coast College, where she obtained the technical skills necessary to bring her visions to life, Heather gained invaluable real-life experience and knowledge working in the field for various design firms. From the exciting beginnings full of inspiration and creativity, to experiencing the finished fruits of her work, Heather’s favorite part of the job is experiencing her designs become reality and seeing her clients shed tears of joy upon completion.

When she is not designing dream homes, Heather is a proud dog mom to Bear and Rocco. She also has a habit of doing something pretty every weekend for inspiration, meaning you can often find her hiking picturesque trails, traveling the world, and visiting museums and exhibits. Always eager to learn new tricks of the trade, master new programs, and keep on trend, Heather’s main goal for the future is to continue growing as a designer!

Angelika Meyer Angelika Meyer

Angelika Meyer-Office Manager

Angelika has always had an admiration for real estate, design and construction. She grew up with parents who loved flipping homes, with her father being a general contractor and doing all of the work himself. They would go to open houses and spend time planning renovations for the new homes. This grew into a long term passion for Angelika and she decided to gain some further experience by attending interior design school where she was able to hone in on her ability to think creatively and outside the box, while remaining detail oriented. After starting a job in the real estate finance industry, Angelika found that her skill set was in office operations. As an avid Long Beach citizen when Angelika heard that Zieba Builders needed a new Office Manager, it seemed like a match made in heaven. Here was a company who had the vision and experience that Angelika grew up loving, with an open position made for her.

In her free time, Angelika enjoys cooking meals with her family, spending time outside and in the water, whether swimming or kayaking, and skiing in the winter. She can also be found attending open houses and garage sales, or working with her mom on their home based craft business.

Tom Piplack Tom Piplack

Tom Piplack-Marketing Assistant

Tom grew up in Germany, where he was frequently exposed to construction in his grandfather’s lumber and cabinetry business, and moved to the US at the age of 17 without a real plan, but a lot of motivation. This drive, the need for creativity and his ability to sell naturally put him on a path towards marketing, so when the opportunity arose to join the team at ZBI, he didn’t have to think twice. After starting with Zieba Builders as an intern at first, he eventually got hired as Marketing Assistant and is now responsible for social media management, content creation and general marketing duties.
When he is not posting pictures and writing blogs, you can find him outdoors exploring California’s beautiful parks, playing beach soccer, or going on a run.
